In the heart of war-torn Ukraine, TORV Kyiv is a call to action for designers worldwide. This competition challenges you to create tactical urban street furniture that transforms Kyiv’s Kontraktova Square into a space of resilience, healing, and hope. In a city facing daily struggles in a war zone, your designs can provide comfort, connection, and strength to communities under extraordinary pressure. Winning designs will be implemented in Spring 2025, directly supporting Ukraine’s recovery and showing how design can make a profound difference in times of crisis. Join us and help redesign both an iconic public space and a city’s spirit.
It’s a short, tough deadline – we know. But that’s how we roll in a war zone. The need is urgent. Urbanism is a valuable tool but in the Kyiv context, it is also a medicine. This is a Danish-led project (the word “TORV” is Danish for “square”) but this is all for the benefit of the people of Kyiv. This will be the world’s largest pop-up urbanism project – which will help the people using the public space but also inspire the world with what it possible during a brutal invasion.
